UPDATE: Thursday, May 13 at Midnight is the deadline for the Texas House to consider and pass House bills on 2nd reading. It is extremely troubling that 3 bills supported by the LGBTQ lobby, including a #BantheBible bill with troubling “sexual orientation and gender identify” (SOGI) language, have passed the Republican-controlled Calendars Committee and placed on the Texas House calendar for May 12 or May 13. The LGBTQ supported bills, all authored by Democrats, include HB 4243 (on May 12 calendar), HB 191 (on May 13 calendar), and HB 2045 (on May 13 calendar).
We need you to immediately contact your Texas House member to oppose these 3 bills! After you send a message below, please also call your member's office in opposition to these bills today.
Original Alert:
In apparent contempt for the overwhelming opposition from Texas citizens to #BanTheBible bills last legislative session, Democratic state legislators have filed many of these highly controversial bills yet again during the current Texas Legislative Session.
With the U.S. Supreme Court’s troubling decision in Bostock v. Clayton County on employment discrimination last summer and the Biden Administration's unprecedented promotion of radical LGBT ideology, opponents of religious freedom are more emboldened than ever to punish people of faith.
#BanTheBible doesn't have to mean confiscating physical Bibles yet, but it does mean something even worse––stripping Texans' right to practice biblical teachings right out of their lives.
Hiding under the disguise of "sexual orientation and gender identity" (SOGI) language, these bills would create new government power to ban free expression of biblical beliefs, especially it's teaching on marriage and sexuality. Texans who do not comply could face fines, possible jail time, and other charges. Read more details on concerning #BanTheBible bills already filed here.
Key talking points to communicate to your legislators:
Oppose all #BanTheBible bills that seek to criminalize the free expression of biblical values
Oppose all efforts to give special protections based on "Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity"
Publicly champion bills to protect religious freedom and biblical values
