Original Alert:
The pandemic has revealed that attacks on our religious liberty are still very real and prevalent. During this Texas Legislative Session we must take a stand to ensure our religious liberties are protected and the Freedom to Worship Act, SB 26/HB 1239, does just that.
By ensuring that a “government agency or public official may not issue an order that closes or has the effect of closing places of worship in the state or in a geographic area of the state,” the Freedom to Worship Act fortifies our religious liberty made vulnerable to radical anti-religion governmental attacks.
It is unacceptable and discriminatory when churches across the country are told to close while grocery stores, liquor stores, and even casinos are allowed to remain open. Even in our state some churches in Texas were told how to conduct worship services during a pandemic while police circled their drive-in church services.
Attacks on churches during this pandemic overwhelmingly demonstrates our need to reaffirm that churches in the State of Texas are essential and must remain open.
In a time of turmoil for so many Americans, churches are absolutely essential to help the hurting. Churches are the one place people seek out when faced with spiritual, physical and mental burdens. So why would we shut their doors, restrict access, and bar people getting the help they need? Churches are indeed essential!
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has already designated the bill as a priority bill in the Texas Senate to pass this legislative session. Take action today and tell your Texas State Senator and Representative to support and coauthor the Freedom to Worship Act.
