The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) has enacted a new policy that allows boys access to girls’ showers, lockers, and bathrooms -- and vice-versa.
The new policy adds “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “gender expression” (a string of special protections that do not exist in state law), and it applies to instances of “accommodation” and decisions about use of bathroom, showers, and locker rooms. These changes in law are the main legal element that allows people to demand that they go into the bathroom of their choice based on their “gender identity,” which can be different than their biological sex.
We believe that San Antonio ISD did not give parents and concerned citizens sufficient notice as the agenda item did not provide adequate detail nor did it give specific reference to these new words that were added to current school policy: “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “gender expression.” Attempts to add these news words and special legal classifications at the state level have been controversial and unsuccessful.
We oppose the new San Antonio ISD sexuality and bathroom policy, and we call on the school district to rescind this polarizing and controversial government policy - sign our petition today if you agree!
