UPDATE: The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) will be considering revised Health and Science TEKS for first reading and a vote during the week of September 8-11. We need parents and concerned Texans to protect Texas’ over 5 million public school children by contacting the SBOE and by signing up to testify against radical sex education and politicized Science courses on Tuesday September 8, 2020 at 8 AM.
At the SBOE meeting in June, leftist LGBTQ and pro-abortion advocacy groups testified against abstinence-focused education and in favor of highly sexualized, pro-LGBTQ propaganda starting in kindergarten.
Thankfully, your engagement and the testimony of our team made a difference. The current draft that is expected to be voted on does not promote radical sex education or contain pro-abortion or pro-LGBTQ propaganda. The draft for first reading is abstinence focused and includes the advantages of abstinence from sexual activity. You can see the current draft of the Health standards here.
We also need concerned Texans to sign up to testify on the Science TEKS as well. Work group members have added the topic of “social justice” throughout the Science TEKS. The topic of social justice, which will open the door to LGBTQ advocacy, does not belong in Science. You can see the Science TEKS here.
Leftist groups like Texas Freedom Network and SIECUS plan to testify for pro-LGBTQ amendments to the final draft of the Health TEKS and in support of further politicization of the Science TEKS. We need as many people as possible to stand up for common sense Health & Science standards by contacting the State Board of Education.
Original Alert: On Monday, June 29, the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) will begin discussing revisions to Health education standards (Health TEKS), including sex education, for all Texas public school students. Sex education is not required to be taught in Texas public schools, and current law, in Texas Education Code 28.004, requires an abstinence focused approach must be used if sex education is taught.
Leftist LGBT advocacy groups are calling this a “once in-a-generation opportunity” to attack Texas’ abstinence focused approach and teach highly sexualized LGBT propaganda starting in kindergarten.
All Texans must take action today by contacting the SBOE to support Texas’ common sense, abstinence focused approach. The future of 5.5 million public school students hangs in the balance.
Radical organizations like SIECUS and Texas Freedom Network, which were both started by Planned Parenthood, have been putting enormous pressure on the SBOE to adopt “comprehensive” sex education seen in states like California and here in Texas in Austin ISD. Comprehensive sex education is simply a code name for radical sex education that teaches children that sex is theirs to explore whenever and wherever they choose, that gender is “fluid” and has nothing to do with a child’s biological sex, and that abortion is a basic right that should be unapologetically promoted.
Please contact your Texas SBOE Member today:
Ensure all Texas Health TEKS remain in alignment with Texas law that states sex education is optional in public schools, and if taught, an abstinence-based approach (sexual risk avoidance) must be used.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that abstinence from sexual activity is the “only 100% effective way to prevent HIV, other STDs, and pregnancy.”
The Institute for Research and Evaluation found that comprehensive sex education increases teen pregnancy, increases contraction of STDs, decreases condom use, and actually increases forced or coerced sex.
Radical “comprehensive” sex education that promotes hyper-sexualization of children and indoctrinates children with pro-LGBT “sexual orientation & gender identity” politics should be rejected. Our public schools should not be teaching radical ideologies that contradict our faith and values.
Public schools have no right to promote abortion to children, especially when Texas law bans abortion for minors without parental consent.
